I'm sure I've read most of the essays in the first book over the years, but I'm already surprised in the first essay to see you describe politicians as evil. This seems at odds with the notion I think you've expressed elsewhere that policy is much better than you might expect from public opinion alone. Voters would likely eat up massive fuel subsidies and internal border controls, but politicians have failed for the most part to push those policies, and a thousand other terrible ones as well.
