Capla-Con 2022!

Speaking of parties and imagination, this summer I am bringing Capla-Con back to Virginia after a three-year hiatus. Capla-Con is a two-day festival of nerdity at my home in Northern Virginia for all my friends and well-wishers, this August 13 and 14. Noon-midnight both days, open house format.

Capla-Con happened annually for about a decade, was cancelled for Covid in 2020, and moved to Austin in 2021. (Thank you, Steve Kuhn and Dreamland!) Now I’m thrilled to welcome back all my friends - old and new.

Guests play board games, role-playing games, party games, and LARPs, sing karaoke, and just hang out. I usually run one big RPG each day, from the massive stockpile of original Team Caplan superhero, action, historical, crime, horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and absurdist scenarios. And I’m open to requests.

This year, I’ll also be performing my first official stand-up comedy routine. Seriously. If anyone else wants to try, we’ll have an open mic.

If you’re coming from out of town, please let me know. We often have special sessions for die-hards a day or two before the official party.

If you’d like to attend, please just join the Facebook group. Use the Event page to try to organize any game you like. If there’s a game you’ve been yearning to try, but couldn’t find the players, this is your chance. Or demo your own original games. Years ago, famed game designer Ananda Gupta taught guests the Beta version of his Twilight Struggle, which eventually made it to #1 on Board Game Geek. Whatever you do, have fun - and be sure to introduce yourself.
